The Hartford Introduces New Technology to Help Agents Service ...

HARTFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: HIG), a company that is committed to developing technology solutions for its network of independent agents, has launched a new, automated system that will make it faster and easier for agents to service and modify their clients' personal lines insurance policies from The Hartford.

The Hartford's Personal Lines Policy Change Center will enable agents and their customer service representatives (CSR's) to manage auto policy changes in real-time, providing information when they need it -- immediately. The application will also support homeowner policy endorsements, although real-time capabilities are available only for auto policies at present.

Among other things, agents will be able to quote different scenarios, such as adding a new car to a policy, and quickly determine how these changes will affect their client's premium.

UPDATE: Auto Retailers Combat Soft New-Car Sales

DETROIT -(Dow Jones)- With new-car sales weak in some key U.S. markets, auto retailers are looking to areas such as used cars, parts and service, finance operations and inventory controls to boost or hold on to profits.

Three major auto retailers - Penske Automotive Group Inc. (PAG), Group 1 Automotive Inc. (GPI) and Sonic Automotive Inc. (SAH) - reported results Tuesday that met or beat expectations.

Softness in the housing market and high fuel prices are taking a bite out of new-car sales in the U.S. Both Sonic and Group 1 reported a decline in same- store revenue of new cars. Penske Automotive, which relies more on luxury and import brands, reported an increase in same-store new-car revenue, but the growth was far outpaced by the increase in used-car revenue.

Not a good year to have teammate in Chase

It makes you wonder what kind of fender-bender it would take to stir up those harsh feelings again, especially if the two are racing head-to-head for the championship.

Even Gordon and Johnson, teammates and close friends, nearly had a run-in earlier this year when Johnson took exception to Gordon rattling his bumper during a battle for the win at Martinsville.

Though they quickly put the incident behind them, if two drivers as close as Gordon and Johnson can exchange harsh words after an on-track incident, any teammates in any organization can have their problems.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Martin Truex Jr. are close friends and teammates at Dale Earnhardt Inc., but what happens when both make the Chase? Will Earnhardt Jr., who is on his way to replace Busch at Hendrick after this season, have the same shot at the title as Truex, who now represents the future of the organization?

Will there be any incentive at all to help Earnhardt Jr.
